General FAQs

1.
Lost unlock code / registration information. How can I retrieve it?

You can retrieve registration information for all your Renewed Vision software products by going to the link below. Enter the E-mail address that was used to complete the purchase. We will find all products purchased using that E-Mail address and send all results to that E-mail address. The same link is also found under the "Help" menu within ProPresenter.

If the E-Mail address has changed (i.e., that person and E-Mail no longer work for your organization), then you must call us to have it updated.

2.
How do I import songs from my previous worship presentation software?

Disclaimer: The below methods all rely on other products to work correctly. If you follow these steps and something doesn't work, we may not be able to help you further since we don't have control over the quality of the exported files.

MediaShout 3.x instructions:
  • Choose Shout Singer > File > Export Songs > Shout Singer Text File.
  • Choose Destination file.
  • Name your file > Next > All Songs. Uncheck the "Save as Unicode" box. Import will not work right unless you do this.
  • Export/Save file and move it to your ProPresenter machine (via thumb drive or network). If you are using Pro4 for Windows on the same computer, make note of where you saved the file on your computer and skip to the "Import into ProPresenter" instructions below.
  • Skip to last step below "Import into ProPresenter".

MediaShout 4.x instructions:
  • On the Song Deck, click the arrow next to the search field, select Export > Song deck text file > Next.

Exporting from Easy Worship:
  • We recommend EasySearch, a utility published by Headwest Productions in the UK. Once you have saved your lyrics as text files, you can import them using the standard text file import steps mentioned below. If the download link on the site is not working, you may try using this direct download link.

Exporting from Song Show Plus:
  • The best option for Converting SongShowPlus files is Lyric Converter. This is a free online tool that can convert SongShowPlus file to ProPresenter files or text files.

Exporting from PowerPoint:
  • There is no fast way to export from PowerPoint, but it can be sped up. For every song you have, open it in PowerPoint and view it in Outline mode. From here you can "select all" and copy this text into a Word document (one song per document). ProPresenter can import multiple documents at a time.
  • This capability will be greatly improved in ProPresenter 4 where you can batch import all text objects from any number of PowerPoint documents. See PowerPoint Import on our Road to ProPresenter 4 page.

Importing from Other Presentation Software:
  • Look at the respective user manual or call the developer to inquire about the easiest way to export all songs as plain text documents.

Import into ProPresenter:
  • From the File menu, choose "Import>Import File"
  • Locate the .txt file
  • Choose "Import into Library" and select "Paragraph break"
  • Finish by clicking the Continue button and ProPresenter will import the file(s).

3.
How do I incorporate YouTube videos into ProPresenter?

The web browser that is built into ProPresenter doesn't handle Youtube or other similar sites very well due to the way those sites work. We recommend downloading the video you want to show so that you can play it back as a regular video file instead of having to load a website to show the file. This provides for a seamless transition and you don't have to worry about other content or ads being shown that may be inappropriate.

We recommend using PwnYouTube since it works in all browsers and is easy to use. PwnYouTube works with Youtube, but it also works with many other sites as well, although we don't test this with other sites.

PwnYouTube allows you to easily download and save a copy of the video on the YouTube page you're on and is compatible with all major browsers.

Drag the link below to your Bookmarks Bar.
bookmarklet link:   PwnYouTube

When you are on the video page that you want to use, click the PwnYouTube link the toolbar. This will add a yellow bar across the top-of the page. Right-click on HQ MP4, or a higher quality MP4 if more options are available, and save the file to your computer. Load the video file into ProPresenter after it has finished downloading.

How to enable the Bookmarks toolbar in each browser.
  • In Safari for Mac, the Bookmarks bar can be enabled under the "View" menu.
  • In Chrome for Mac, the Bookmarks bar can be enabled under the "View" menu.
  • In Firefox for Mac, it's under "View" and then "Toolbars".
  • In Internet Explorer, right-click in the blank space to the right of the tabs and select "Favorites bar".
  • In Chrome for Windows, press Ctrl+Shift+B to enable the menu.
  • In Firefox for Windows, right-click in the blank space to the right of the tabs and select "Bookmarks Toolbar".
  • In Safari for Windows, the toolbar is enabled by default. If not, click on the gear menu on the right and select "Show Menu Bar".

A quick note about copyright violation and Youtube videos. As a general principal, everything on Youtube is a work of copyright. As soon as something is published in any form, a copyright is immediately applied. There are ways to officially claim a copyright, but under intellectual property laws, a published work has a copyright. The following was posted by one of our forum users who coordinates large live events professionally and his advice on legally using content from Youtube.

1) CCLI also offers a CVLI blanket license (including a great website) that allows you to play many popular movies publicly during church services. These can easily (and legally) be ripped from a DVD for the purpose of playing in the service (not for putting on the network for the staff to download personally).

2) There are also companies (www.swank.com and www.criterionpicusa.com) that specialize in this as well (this is helpful for larger churches that are above the capacity limit for CVLI). They have most of the popular movies out there (as well as many TV shows, too).

3) If there is a video on YouTube that you want to use (and you know that it is not a copyright-violation video, such as the many "How Great is our God" videos), simply contact the original poster. Many times, if you tell them what you would like to do with it, they will give you permission to show it without any costs, problems, etc. It's just a simple email to the poster. However, they must hold all of the copyrights to everything in the video (can't use somebody's music without their permission) to be able to give you permission. Once that is done, ask them to upload a copy via www.dropbox.com for you (which is typically better quality anyway than ripping from YouTube).

4.
Does ProPresenter allow you to build a song database?

Yes. And because you have complete access to your song database, you can add songs at any time without exiting the presentation.

In ProPresenter 4 we introduced the ability to have multiple libraries. Once a library has been set up, it's easy to switch between them.

To create a library or add a new one to the list, click File > Select Library > Manage Library. A library is just a folder on a local or external/remote drive. Choose the one you want and it will be added to the list.

5.
Does it support nursery alerts - and if you have to switch back and forth between Keynote, can you easily display nursery alerts from both Keynote and ProPresenter?

ProPresenter 3
ProPresenter's Announcement function is made for this purpose and allows you to enter in nursery alerts without impacting any of your other song libraries, as well as show and hide the nursery call independently of the presently shown song slide. You cannot, however, show ProPresenter generated nursery alerts over Keynote or PowerPoint slides.

ProPresenter 4
ProPresenter 4 offers an enhanced messaging window that's still simple to use. Now you can save multiple sets of messages that you can quickly access and send to the screen. These messages can contain dynamic data, so formatting and editing custom messages can be quick and easy.
Looking at the full message window, dynamic data is managed by a new element we call Tokens. As evident by their names, Tokens are placeholders for variable data such as clocks, timers, and text. You can interlace static text with Tokens to expedite data entry for your operators.

When clicking on the Messages button the first time, only the variable fields for the selected Message are seen for quick configuration and firing to screen.

6.
Does it have built-in scripture support?

Yes. Scripture support is available with over 50 Bibles to choose from. This can either be done on the fly, or in pre-programming as the program allows you to save Scripture verses just like songs.

7.
How do you delete backgrounds from the "Backgrounds Bin"?

Hold down the command key (found on either side of the space bar), click to select a slide, and hit the delete key. You may also Right-Click (Control-Click) and select Delete Background.

For Windows uses, press the Ctrl key in order to click and select slides to delete. You may also Right-Click and select Delete Background.

8.
How does ProPresenter compare to other products?

ProPresenter is used by some of the most well-respected and influential churches in the country and around the world. Our focus on high quality, stable and easy to use applications, over quickly crafted marketing bullet point features, defines the reputation we have earned.

Customers switching from other products to ProPresenter praise its ease of use and its media handling. Video playback is better than most other competitors, and the interface is designed for volunteers.

Specific features that Pro has beyond the ease of use, smooth video playback and stability are:
  • Independently control backgrounds and and text slides; this enables you to have as many backgrounds within a song as you wish.
  • Smooth video cross-dissolves.
  • Video playback through SDI output.
  • What You See is What You Get (WYSIWYG) slide previews: the entire interface shows exactly what a slide will look like when made live so you can see text formatting/line returns and make changes before making a slide live.
  • Fully searchable song database.
  • QuickEdit feature allows you to edit or reformat slides while still clicking on other slides to make them live.
  • Dynamically generated count down timer.

While we hope this helps, we encourage you to take a look at ProPresenter for yourself with the free demo available from the "Download" link above.

9.
Can I play back parts of a DVD from within ProPresenter?

Yes! Using ProPresenter 3.2 (Mac only) or above (4.0 or higher for Mac and Windows), you can set in and out points of the DVD clip you want to play in pre-production, and call the clip up on the fly during the service. Clips can be played directly from the DVD Player, or added directly to playlists or presentations.

10.
What version of QuickTime do I have installed?

Mac users:
This can be determined by using either QuickTime Player or the latest version of the ProPresenter. Just launch one or the other and look in the respective "About" boxes under menu item with the name of the program ("QuickTime Player" or "ProPresenter").

Windows users:
As with the Mac version, this information can be found in either QuickTime or in ProPresenter. In QuickTime, click on Help and choose About QuickTime Player. In ProPresenter, click on the ProPresenter menu option and choose About ProPresenter and then click on the System Information tab and scroll down to the QuickTime version information.

11.
Does ProPresenter support importing lyrics from Song Select (CCLI)?

Beginning with ProPresenter 3.4 (Mac only), it has been possible to import songs directly from SongSelect into ProPresenter's library without leaving the application.

ProPresenter 3.4+ (Mac only)
  • Open the Resource Center by clicking on the Resource icon in the toolbar or selecting Open Resource Center from the ProPresenter3 menu.
  • Click on the SongSelect tab.
  • Log in with your SongSelect credentials and search for the songs you want to load.
  • From the Lyrics menu in SongSelect, choose either Copy or Save (as .txt file) or Export (as .usr file).
  • Repeat this process for all the songs you want to import each time.

ProPresenter 4.0 (Mac or Windows)
  • Click on the SongSelect icon in the menu bar.
  • Log in with your SongSelect credentials and search for the songs you want to load.
  • From the Lyrics menu in SongSelect, choose either Copy or Save (as .txt file) or Export (as .usr file).
  • Repeat this process for all the songs you want to import each time.

12.
If we try the software and don't like it, do you offer a refund?

The purchase of the ProPresenter software generates an Unlock code to enable its unfettered use. Once this code has been generated, it cannot be "un-generated". This is the equivalent of opening a shrink-wrapped piece of software purchased from a retail outlet, which the industry widely accepts as non-returnable/non-refundable.

We offer a FREE demo of our software that has no time or feature limitations (protected only by a watermark on the output screen). This allows any potential customer to thoroughly test the software before spending any money. We HIGHLY encourage this. As such, we do not offer any refunds for purchases under any circumstances. All sales are final. If you have questions about this policy, please email [email protected].

Hardware purchased from this site is covered by manufacturer warranty and therefore not eligible for return or refund.

13.
Do you offer any discounts (education, migration from another product, etc.)?

Our products are largely made for non-profit organizations and have been priced to represent the best value possible for the functionality of the product. There are no discounts off of the listed price of the software.

14.
I can't find the still images or motion backgrounds that are supposed to be included in the program, what do I do?

There is a collection of free sample still images included with the program that can be found in the installer file. These can be copied to your computer if you want to use them. Additional free videos can be downloaded through the Store button in the toolbar. Click on Store, then scroll down and click on the Renewed Vision video sample download button.

15.
Does ProPresenter support wireless remotes?

The only remote that we officially support is our iOS remote app, ProRemote. It is available through iTunes for $4.99.

We have not done any testing with third-party presentation remotes. These remotes may or may not work with ProPresenter, and we are not able to provide support for them at this time.

16.
Does ProPresenter come with a built-in Song Library?

Yes, but limited. After you install ProPresenter, there is an option to import a small library of roughly 60 Public Domain songs (some of them are a special few we have permission from the artist to include). Renewed Vision is not a publisher of song lyrics and as such, we do not have the right to simply include any songs we want. That's why we built SongSelect directly into the program. Now any church with a CCLI license can easily download and automatically import any worship song they like at a moments notice.

17.
What video compression settings do you recommend?

We recommend using .mov files for both the Mac and Windows version of ProPresenter. If you purchase videos through the built in media store in ProPresenter, the files will be properly encoded.

If you have purchased videos from other sources, or have rendered videos in-house, you may need to recompress the file using these recommended settings if you notice any issues with the playback of the video.

For full details of our recommended compression settings, and how to change the settings for your video, please take a look at this support article.

Additional Mac info:

Anything QuickTime recognizes is playable within ProPresenter (which includes DV, Sorenson, H.264, and more including uncompressed video). As of January 2006, the freely available Windows Media player plug-in from Flip4Mac will allow even your Windows Media files to play back within ProPresenter. The speed of your machine and the type of compression will dictate how smoothly the videos playback. Playing back MPEG 2 video requires the purchase and installation of the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component from Apple.

Additional Windows info:

ProPresenter for Windows natively supports QuickTime, MPEG, AVI, and WMV videos. Other video formats may work, but are not recommended or supported.

18.
Why do I only see my desktop image when ProPresenter is open?

If you have ProPresenter open and all you see on your output screens is your desktop background (not the full desktop, just the image), then you need to enable the output in ProPresenter.

To do this in the Mac version of ProPresenter, press Command-1.

To do this in the Windows version of ProPresenter, press Ctrl-1.

19.
My Stage Display seems to be having problems, what do I do?

The first step in trouble shooting problems with the Stage Display adapter (the Display Link model we sell in our store) is to update to the latest driver for the adapter.

Mac driver update

Windows driver update

20.
Where is the 1984 version of the NIV Bible?

Due to changes in our licensing agreement with the publisher of the NIV Bible, we are no longer able to provide the 1984 version. We are not the only company affected by this change. We would gladly continue offering both versions, but we simply aren't allowed to.

21.
Is ProPresenter 4 cross compatible?

Yes. Files made in the Mac version of Pro4 will work in the PC version. Files made in the PC version with work in the Mac version.

Once Pro5 is released on both platforms, those files will continue to cross compatible as well.

22.
Do you support Prezi?

We have never tested Prezi with ProPresenter, so we don't know if it works or not. PowerPoint and Keynote are the only supported third-party presentation softwares ProPresenter is designed to work with. Prezi files may be able to be shown through the web view.

23.
How do I transfer a module to a different computer?

Modules are registered and linked to a specific computer. This means that you can't just move a module from one computer to another. If you need to make a permanent module transfer from one computer to another, we can help you with that.

There is no fee to transfer modules, but we do ask that you only transfer a module if you are permanently replacing a system. Modules are not meant to be freely moved between computers and we may not do the transfer if we see you've had the same module moved multiple times.

In order to transfer a module we will need you to provide a screen shot of the registration window within ProPresenter showing your ProPresenter license and the ID Code for the new computer. To access this, open ProPresenter, click on the ProPresenter menu, then select Registration. Take a screenshot of this window.

To take a screenshot on a Mac, press Command-Shift-4, then press the Spacebar. You'll see the cursor turn into a camera and the registration window will turn blue. Click to take a screenshot of that window. It will save the image to your desktop using the current date and time for the name.

To take a screenshot on a PC, press Print Screen then paste the image into Paint or Word. If you are on Vista or Windows 7, you can use the program called Snipping Tool which is installed on your computer. Just search for it in the Start menu.

Please provide your existing module registration number as well if you have that, or take a screenshot of the registration window on the current computer showing it registered there. We will disable that code and generate a new code for you that will only work on the new computer.

You can send this information to [email protected] and we will process your request as soon as we can.

24.
Can I still get support or a discounted upgrade for ProPresenter 3?

No. We ended phone/email support and discounted upgrades for ProPresenter 3 on March 31, 2012, a few months after ProPresenter 5 was released.

Support for ProPresenter 3 is still available in our User Forums.

In order to upgrade from ProPresenter 3, you will need to purchase a new license at the full price. The new license can be purchased by going to our ProPresenter Store. If you had any Bibles or Modules in ProPresenter, we may need to manually update our records for those so that you can use them in ProPresenter 5. Please contact us after purchasing ProPresenter 5 if you need further assistance with Bibles and Modules.

25.
How can I request a new Bible translation?

Adding new Bibles is not a quick process since we have to secure licensing with publishers and get a copy of the Bible text that we can convert to our database format.

Please refer to the link below and make an official request in that forum. This is the easiest way for us to keep track of new translation requests and to let everyone know when they are made available.

Make Bible translation requests.

26.
My SongSelect login doesn't work in ProPresenter 5.

There are a few things that could be preventing you from logging into SongSelect.

The first is to make sure you are using the right username and password. Keep in mind that the username may be an email address.

The next thing to check is that your system clock is correct. Make sure it is set to receive time updates automatically. The SongSelect network connection requires that the clock is accurate.

A less common issue we've seen is users trying to log in with a free or expired account. A free or expired SongSelect account can still log into the SongSelect website, but you can't access any of the content. The login through ProPresenter 5 doesn't allow these types of accounts. Your login information needs to be connected to a SongSelect account with an active subscription.

If you are still having issues after checking those three things, feel free to contact us for further help.

27.
Can I extend my two week trial?

We do not typically extend the two week trial. Since the program is fully functional (except for the watermark), we encourage anyone interested in using ProPresenter to test it for as long as they want in the demo mode. When you are comfortable with the program and ready to try it in a live environment, return to the ProPresenter Downloads page and fill out the Trial Code form to get a two week activation code.

We realize that sometimes you may request the trial code and something gets in the way of being able to fully test the program. If you run into this situation, please email us with your trial code information and we can provide one two-week extension for your code.

28.
How can I request a new feature?

If you have a feature that you would like to see added to one of our programs, please and find the correct Feature Request Forum at the bottom of the page.

Since a lot of features have already been requested, please search for a similar request before posting. If you find the same request, you can add your comments to the request if you want to. If you can't find anything similar, add a new request.

We don't respond to most feature requests, but we do read all of them that get posted.

29.
How do I move my license from a Mac to a PC, or a PC to a Mac?

There is a $99 charge for transferring a single user license from one platform to another. You can purchase this cross-grade by visiting our upgrade page. You will need to enter your current license information and then click on the "Verify Eligibility" button. This will check your license and allow you to select the appropriate licensing option.

30.
Do I need the Multi-Screen Module if I have multiple screens?

Here is the link to the Multi-Screen Module product page, where you can read more about its functionality. The Multi-Screen Module is $199 and can be purchased by going to http://www.renewedvision.com/store.php?item=msm. There are several models of DualHead2Go and TripleHead2Go units. To determine the correct version for your computer, please use the Mac Compatibility Wizard or the Windows Compatibility Wizard.

It is important that you order the correct device because not all units are compatibility with every computer. If you receive the wrong device and open it, the unit cannot be returned. The Multi-Screen Module is NOT needed if you are just going to be using several displays that will all be showing the same thing. In this case, you would just need a display distribution amplifier than can split your video signal to each display. The Multi-Screen Module is used for creating double-wide or triple-wide projector setups using two or three screens that are typically placed close to each other on stage. The module provides additional control over each screen such as stretching backgrounds or not showing lyrics on a certain screen. The module does not give you the ability to show multiple presentations at the same time. However, you can manipulate ProPresenter's layers and use Multi-Screen Cues and Alternate Templates as you get more familiar with the program and the module to extend the functionality of this module.

31.
Where can I download older versions of ProPresenter?

We maintain previous versions of ProPresenter at the bottom of the Downloads page. If you need a specific version that is not listed, send us a message and we'll get you the link for it.

32.
Do you have a public list of known bugs in ProPresenter?

We do not maintain a public listing of known bugs for any of our programs, including ProPresenter. For information regarding a possible bug, we recommend starting with our User Forums.

33.
What can I do to start troubleshooting a problem on my own?

We're glad you asked! Many issues can be fixed by resetting Preferences, either within ProPresenter or by manually removing the Preference file. Occasionally the solution is a bit deeper than that, but we have detailed instructions in our user forums to help you get started if you like to try to solve problems on your own. The links below will take you directly to the Troubleshooting Instructions for your version of ProPresenter.

34.
Why does ProPresenter say "Current user permissions do not allow uploads" after logging into Planning Center Online?

If you see this message after logging in, this means your user account does not have the proper permissions. You will need to ask your PCO administrator for an account with "Editor" or "Administrator" permissions.

35.
What's the difference between the "Demo", "Trial", and "Licensed" versions of ProPresenter?

Not much, actually.

The Demo Version is what you download at anytime when you click on the "Download Now" button. You are not going to be asked for any kind of license information when you download the program. If you do not have a license, just click the "Demo" button after installing and opening ProPresenter. While you are using the Demo, you will see our logo as a watermark over the output of ProPresenter. This watermark is applied to the output channel, and not to any of the files. This allows you or your volunteers to create presentations on personal computers without having to use your organization's license on their computers. The demo has no time limit on it.

The Trial Version is the next step from the Demo Version. In order to use the Trial Version, you will need to request a two week trial code. This code is activated as soon as you request it. We recommend that you use the Demo Version for a few days to get comfortable with the program before you request the trial code. When you open ProPresenter, rather than clicking on "Demo" again, enter the registration name and license number from your trial code email. The Trial is active for 14 days and removes the watermark for that time. This allows you to use ProPresenter in a live environment.

The Licensed Version or Registered Version is what you have after you purchase a license for ProPresenter. If you are converting a Demo Version, enter the new registration information rather than clicking on "Demo". If you are using the Demo Version, click on the "ProPresenter 5" menu, select "Registration", and then click "Enter New Registration" to replace the Trial code with your purchased License.

36.
How do transitions work and where do I enable them?

There are three slide transition options and two media transition options. Presentation Transitions apply to anything that you add in the Slide Editor. Generally this is just going to be text/lyrics, but it can include other slide objects as well. Media Transitions apply to any Background or Foreground. This does not include media objects that you add in the Slide Editor.

Presentation Transitions can be applied Globally, to a Document, or on a Slide.
  • Global Transitions: These transitions apply to all Documents in the Library and affect every slide.
  • Document Transitions: These transitions get used before a Global Transition. If you set a Document transition, then that is the transition that will be used for that particular presentation. This transition will not affect other presentations.
  • Slide Transitions: These transitions are applied to individual slides within a presentation. These transitions override the other transitions, but only on the slide they are set for. The rest of the presentation will use the Document or Global Transition.

Media Transitions are typically applied Globally, but can be set for individual clips. The Media Transition is enabled at the bottom of the Video/Image Bin. Even if you drag a file from your file browser directly into ProPresenter, into either a Playlist or a Presentation, the file will still be controlled by this transition. Media Transitions are not limited to items in the Video/Image Bin. If you want to change the transition on a specific media cue, right-click and select Media Properties, and select the transition you want to use.

37.
Does ProPresenter support OpenOffice?

No. ProPresenter only supports PowerPoint (Mac and PC) and Keynote (Mac only).

Mac FAQs

38.
Mac system requirements?

ProPresenter 5.1 for Mac (Cloud support)

  • Processor: 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor or better
  • OS: MacOS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) or later
  • RAM: 2GB of RAM (4GB recommended)
  • Video Card: Dual display with screen spanning capability (a dedicated graphics card with 512MB VRAM is recommended)
  • Stage Display: Additional output required for stage display function (third video out - PCI or USB). Some newer Macs already support 3 video outputs (two Thunderbolt outputs on iMac and Retina MacBook), which means they will support this out of the box and no additional hardware is required.

ProPresenter 4

  • Processor: Intel based Mac. PowerPC processors are not explicitly excluded in the software, but we are unable to provide support for them.
  • OS: MacOS X 10.5.8 or later (Leopard, Snow Leopard and Lion are supported)
  • RAM: 2GB of RAM (4GB recommended)
  • Video Card: Dual display with screen spanning capability (a dedicated graphics card with 512MB VRAM is recommended)
  • Stage Display: Additional output required for stage display function (third video out - PCI or USB)
  • Lion Support in Pro4: In order to use ProPresenter with OS X 10.7 Lion or 10.8 Mt. Lion, you will need to download and install the most recent version (4.2.6). This can be downloaded here.

ProPresenter 3

  • iMac (Intel or PowerPC G5), MacBook Pro, MacBook, Mac Pro, PowerMac G5. Will work on some G4's, but not guaranteed or supported.
  • 1GB of RAM
  • Dual video spanning support - standard on PowerMac, PowerBook, and ALL Intel based Macs including only the NEW Mac Mini introduced March 3, 2009 (read information about G5 iMac, iBooks, and Mac mini below)
  • Core Image-capable graphics card - Video card with a programmable GPU (All Intel Macs)
  • ProPresenter 3 is not being supported for OS X 10.7 Lion.

* PowerPC G5 iBooks and iMacs (NOT Intel based Macs) are shipped from Apple with hardware that is capable of supporting two independent displays, but it is not enabled. Apple only enables 'mirroring' mode which means that when you connect one of these systems to an external display, it shows exactly what's on the internal display (like a mirror). Both ProPresenter and ProVideoPlayer require 'spanning' which is a configuration that allows for the desktop to be extended (or spanned) across a secondary display providing additional desktop space, not just mirroring it. If you have one of these older systems that can only mirror, there is a freely available hack that will enable spanning and works on most systems. It's called Screen Spanning Doctor and while we cannot guarantee it will work for you, we have found it to be quite reliable. Be aware that if you do choose to install it, you do so at your own risk.

For the "Mini" line of Macs, ONLY the NEW version introduced March 3, 2009 (or later) is supported. While older versions have enough horsepower to run ProPresenter, they only have one physical video out and dual video support is required to run ProPresenter (operator screen and an output screen). There are ways to work around this with a Dual or TripleHead2Go, but it is a hack and NOT recommended. Try it at your own risk, but we do not support this implementation. You can also theoretically set up your presentations in ProPresenter and use arrow keys to navigate through your presentation, but this is not suggested.

39.
Is ProPresenter compatible with OS X Yosemite (10.10)?

The latest version of ProPresenter 5 (5.3.1) is supported on OS X Yosemite (10.10).

ProPresenter 4 is not supported on Yosemite. The last supported operating system for ProPresenter 4 is Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

ProPresenter 3 is not supported on Yosemite. The last supported operating system for ProPresenter 3 is Snow Leopard (10.6.8).

40.
PowerPoint - Why am I having trouble importing?

You must have PowerPoint 2008 or newer installed on your computer for the PowerPoint import feature to be enabled.

The PowerPoint import feature will not be enabled for those users who do not have PowerPoint installed or have an older version of PowerPoint installed.

I have to enter my unlock code every time I start ProPresenter?

This is likely a permissions issue with OS X. Follow these steps to correct the problem:
  • Quit ProPresenter.
  • Open Disk Utility, located in the /Applications/Utilities folder. Choose your hard drive, then "Repair Disk Permissions". After this process is complete, close Disk Utility.
  • Go to the root of your computer (your hard drive). Select: /Library/Application Support/RenewedVision.
  • Open the RenewedVision folder and single click on the ProPresenter 4 folder. If there is no such folder, go back up a level and single click on the RenewedVision folder. If there no RenewedVision folder, you have a more significant permissions issue - see the bottom of this FAQ for further instructions.
  • Select from the file menu: File -> Get Info.
  • At the bottom of the info panel is a section named: Sharing & Permissions. You may need to click on the arrow to expand this area. You will need to unlock the panel by clicking on the "lock" icon (in the bottom right corner) and enter your admin name and password.
  • Change the permissions so "everyone" has Read & Write privileges. Be sure to click the "Apply to enclosed items" action as pictured below:

  • Also change the permissions on the RenewedVision folder itself in the same manner.
  • Launch ProPresenter and enter your unlock code again. It should save it without issue. You can test this by quitting and launching again.
  • If you do not have a RenewedVision folder you need to create one in the root of your hard drive.
    • Go to the root of your computer (your hard drive).
    • Select: /Library/Application Support/ then create a new folder called "RenewedVision" and create a folder in there called "ProPresenter 4"
    • Restart the program and enter your code and this should resolve the issue.

My output is dark or my color is off, how can I fix it?

We have seen this behavior on some systems after they have been upgraded to 10.6.3.
  • With your external monitor connected and on, go to Applications > Utilities > Color Sync Utility.
  • Select the Devices tab.
  • Expand Displays.
  • Select your external display.
  • Select the arrow next to Current Profile, then select Other.
  • When the file dialog comes up, select the Color LCD file or a custom setup from a backup.

43.
Why is my ProPresenter library empty?

This is likely due to an indexing problem in your operating system. Please follow these steps to re-install the Spotlight importer.

Quit ProPresenter before performing any of the steps outlined below.
    Leopard - OS 10.5
  1. Open Finder and browse to your Applications folder.
  2. Right-click on the ProPresenter application icon and select "Show Package Contents"
  3. Navigate to: Contents > Library > Spotlight.
  4. Double click on Pro4SpotlightImporter.mdimporter.
  5. Press Install.
  6. Navigate to the "Root of your Hard Drive"/Library/Spotlight.
  7. Double-click on Pro4SpotlightImporter.mdimporter.
  8. Press Re-index.
    Snow Leopard - OS 10.6
  1. Before doing anything to fix this, repair your permissions using the Disk Utility. This usually fixes a multitude of errors. Attempt to find your files again using Spotlight after you have repaired permissions. If this works, you don't need to go further. If it doesn't, continue on with the rest of the following steps.
  2. Click on the Apple icon in the upper left-hand corner of your screen.
  3. Select "System Preferences." You can also launch System Preferences from your Applications folder.
  4. Click on "Spotlight" in the first tier of options in System Preferences.
  5. Select the "Privacy" tab.
  6. Click the "Add" button (the one with the plus sign).
  7. Find the ProPresenter repository (by default it is: /Documents/ProPresenter4) and click the "Choose" button. You can also drag that folder into this window.
  8. Your ProPresenter repository will now show up in the "Privacy" window.
  9. Quit System Preferences.
  10. Re-launch System Preferences and go back to the Privacy tab of the Spotlight preferences pane.
  11. Select the volume or folders you had added previously and remove it by clicking the "Remove" button (the one with the minus sign).
  12. Restart your computer. It may take some time for Spotlight to re-index your files. Wait until Spotlight is done indexing before trying to perform another search.

Why do I get a "Can not save" warning? Why do my presentations not load? What is the .RVD file error?

It is possible your data file has become corrupt. There is a backup feature built into ProPresenter 3.5.

    Run Backup Procedure
  • Quit ProPresenter.
  • Hold down the "Option" key and relaunch ProPresenter.
  • You will be prompted to select a previous data file.
  • Select one from the pull down menu and proceed.
  • After loading a previous data file, if your Library is working, quit ProPresenter.
  • You will be prompted to either keep this data file or revert to the one that may have been corrupt (the file before you ran the backup procedure).
If you find that none of the back up libraries are working, you can create a new empty data file and rebuild your library from an export file. Note: your playlist will be lost and require you to rebuild manually.
    Export:
  • You should select all items in the Library. (Command-A)
  • Select from the file menu "Export Selected Presentations".
  • You will be prompted to select "ProPresenter Format" under the export type.
  • Save to a directory you can later find.
  • This will create an export file containing your Library.
    Steps to clean your database:
  • First, Quit ProPresenter.
  • Next, go to the finder and open the directory: [your home folder]/Library/Application Support/RenewedVision/ProPresenter
  • Rename the file "ProPresenter3.rvd" to "ProPresenter3_backup.rvd"
  • Launch ProPresenter.
  • Double click on your exported file.
  • This will import your previous library.

45.
I entered the unlock code for a Bible but I get an error.

This is likely due to the same permissions issue with OS X as described above. Follow these steps to correct the problem:
  • Quit ProPresenter.
  • Go to the root of your computer (your hard drive). Select: /Library/Application Support/Renewed Vision.
  • Open the Bibles folder and single click on the Bible which is causing problems.
  • Also change the permissions on the Bible folder itself in the same manner.
  • Launch ProPresenter and enter your unlock codes for each Bible.

    46.
Can you use ProPresenter with Keynote or PowerPoint?

Yes, switching between the either of these applications and ProPresenter works great. There are a few settings you need to configure as outlined below, however, so you can switch between applications seamlessly without your audience knowing.

First, you need to be sure you have ProPresenter's output window (the secondary display the audience will be viewing) set so it won't override all other windows as shown below (UNCHECK "Display at Top Most Window Layer"). This feature eliminates the issue of a user accidently dragging a window onto your secondary display and having it appear to your audience. However, it will also override any other programs secondary display window, such as PowerPoint or KeyNote, so it must be disabled to use these programs in conjunction with ProPresenter. With this setting disabled, the output of these programs will take precedence over the ProPresenter screen (lay on top in the forefront). It's best to leave ProPresenter while on a generic screen (black or church splash screen) and start the slide show with the same screen as there is no way to cross-dissolve when switching programs.

For Keynote, be sure you have it set to present your slide show on the secondary display as shown below (in it's Preferences window).

In order to be able to switch back and forth between ProPresenter and Keynote, be sure the following Preference is selected (similar to ProPresenter's setting above):

For PowerPoint 2008, be sure you're running it with the latest Mac Service Pack 2 (12.2.0 or later) installed, which corrects a screen mirroring issue that earlier versions use to cause. Without this updated version, you cannot switch successfully between programs without PowerPoint automatically reconfiguring the displays to mirroring mode when in a slide show (a very bad thing). Change the Preference indicated below:

If you're running PowerPoint 2007, there is a work around for the mirroring issue mentioned above. In PowerPoint, there is an feature known as the Presenter Tools. This function shows the presenter some information on their internal screen (time remaining, next slide, etc.). If you have the Presenter Tools showing and switch to any other application, PowerPoint will change your display settings to mirroring mode which can really mess things up. Again, this is a Microsoft issue with ALL applications on the Mac, not just ProPresenter or PVP. You are able to avoid this by starting up your slide show WITHOUT the Presenter Tools screen. You do this by "option"-clicking the start slide show button found in the lower left corner of PowerPoint.

Be sure you have PowerPoint set to present your slide show on the secondary display as shown below.

NOTE: Use of PowerPoint or Keynote is not possible with video output cards (Blackmagic, AJA) as these cards are not accelerated video cards. As such, if you are using the Alpha Keyer module or Advanced module, the switching mentioned here will not send the PowerPoint or Keynote signals to the video output card.

    47.
I notice latency when using live video through firewire. How can I get rid of this?

All video is delayed if it is processed by anything (computer, switcher, scaler, etc.). This is known as latency. There are two kinds of latency - acceptable and distracting. Even a $100k switcher will have latency, but probably only a frame or two. Due to compression/decompression requirements, using a live video feed from a FireWire camera through a computer is probably the worst case scenario. This standard was designed for simplicity, not speed. Before video even leaves the camera itself it has been delayed as a result of compressing the video signal into DV. Using an SDI input method will reduce this latency, but you must have a MacPro tower and SDI card to accomplish this. Despite the inherent delays, we offer this feature because it's been highly requested, our competition has it (though subject to all the same issues), and in some cases it doesn't matter, such as for overflow rooms. Plus it's free.

We tend to recommend against doing live feeds through a computer. The problem with this is not a software issue, but a hardware one. All video manipulation methods have latency, even if you're using a $100,000 switcher. Going through FireWire and the computer is usually the worst. As such, the feeding of a live video image into PVP, ProPresenter, or any other software package for that matter is best left to a video switching device, which our customers use with great results. Hence the criticism of this type of feature. You can read such criticism here.

    48.
What is the username and password that I'm being prompted for during installation?

This is the Mac OS X authentication window. It appears any time a change to the hard drive is attempted in an area which requires administrative privileges, such as writing a file. It's the same window you have to complete when doing any System Software Updates or software installations. The user name and password are referring to the administrative login information and have nothing to do with ProPresenter. It's always best to be logged in as the original administrative user when attempting to register a copy of ProPresenter.

During the registration process, if you successfully enter your name and unlock code, ProPresenter will write this information to your drive so that next time you launch the program, you won't have to enter it again. Once successfully written, ProPresenter will be able to access it no matter which user is logged in.

If it wasn't written the first time, it was due to a permissions issue with the operating system and the issue will persist. OS X is very secure, but permission settings can go astray occasionally which requires them to be reset manually. If you experience this problem, please refer to FAQ #13.

    49.
Can you use ProPresenter and/or ProVideoPlayer with Intel Macs?

ProPresenter, version 3.0 and higher, is a Universal binary and works great on all Intel Macs. ProPresenter 2 is not available as a Universal Binary since the the tools to do so remain unavailable. However, we have tested it with the Intel Macs and found it to work well (utilizing Rosetta), with no known issues. Therefore, we support all versions of ProPresenter on Macs with Intel processors.

    50.
Can you build a Playlist for a service and preview what is next in order?

Click on the Add Playlist button at the bottom of the Playlist view to create a new Playlist. Drag and drop Presentations from the Library over to your new Playlist.

In ProPresenter 3 you can only view one presentation at a time in the slide viewer. In ProPresenter 4 you can enable Contiguous View and see all of your presentations in the slide viewer at one time.

    51.
Our order of worship quickly changes from video to songs to PowerPoint or Keynote presentations - any issues in making seamless transitions here?

Not at all, especially when used in conjunction with a switcher to fade out during the transition and back in when complete. See FAQ #47 for detailed information.

    52.
Why does my purchased stock video not play back smoothly?

Smooth playback can be effected by the Codec (short for compressor/decompressor) used for compression and the Data Rate of the compression settings. Movie clips that you receive from a manufacture are set to the highest quality possible. Original files from various manufactures should be compressed for optimum playback for the target machine. We have found H.264 and PhotoJPEG (both at no more than 50% or middle quality) on current systems (Core 2 Duo or better as they are processor intensive and require the extra power) produce a nice balance between high quality and high performance. Uncompressed clips using PhotoJPEG at 100% will not play back well on any machine as this is raw, highest possible quality footage (i.e. Digital Juice Jumpbacks), so be sure you have recompressed them before trying.

While MPEG1 clips that often come from download services (such as Barna, SermonSpice, WorshipFilms, Digital Hotcakes, MediaShout, etc.) will play, they are not reliable and will often not play smoothly. It's an old, GOP based codec that has been updated twice, first by MPEG2 and now MPEG4. Playing back MPEG2 videos require an additional $19 plug-in from Apple for QuickTime (due to licensing fees the MPEG association charges vendors which are passed onto the consumer). All our software is based on the QuickTime architecture, not WMA which runs AVIs. To get the desired playback out of old MPEG1 clips, we suggest either contacting the manufacturer you purchased your clips from and ask to download Quicktime versions (which most have) OR convert these clips into QuickTime movies using the above mentioned Codec(s).

A great single movie or batch conversion utility called Compressor comes with the Final Cut Studio suite or there are numerous other 3rd party applications you can use (Stomp is one of the most affordable at $29.95). You can also try QTAmateur which is a free batch conversion utility from Michael Ash.

    53.
JPEGs (jpg) show as white image

Still images in ProPresenter run within the QuickTime environment. This limits their resolution to either 2k (2,000x2,000) for MacBooks and Mac minis, and 4k for MacBook Pros, MacPros, and iMacs. So if you see a blank white image when you expected to see that nice picture from your 6mp camera, try sizing down the image to under 2k. You will not lose any noticeable resolution when displayed since your output is likely far less than these sizes and would be resized anyway during output (i.e. if your secondary output display / program screen is set to 1024x768, your 6mp, 2848x2136 image would be sized down to 1024x768 as it goes out the card). So ideally, just re-size the image to the same size as your output display resolution is set to (800x600 or whatever).

Also, since images display using the QuickTime engine, they must be using the RGB color space that the video world uses (not CMYK that the print industry uses).

    54.
How do I install/duplicate ProPresenter on another Mac?

To begin, install ProPresenter on the new system the same way it was done on the first by downloading the latest version from our site, dragging the application to the Applications Folder as instructed, and launch and enter your Unlock Code.

If you want each ProPresenter installation to remain consistent throughout your organization, it's best to choose one machine in particular to be the "Master" station that incorporates all changes. The best way to duplicate one complete installation of ProPresenter to another Mac begins with Media Management. We recommend placing all your media clips into one location and suggest using the "Movies" folder within your "Home" folder since every user has such a folder (like they do a "Pictures" folder and a "Music" folder). Feel free to sub-categorize it within your Movies folder by creating a folder called "ProPresenter Media" (whatever name you wish). Once you get into the habit of organizing all your media content into this folder and then adding that media to ProPresenter, you've won half the battle. ProPresenter stores only the paths to media, not the actual media itself. So when you want to recreate your ProPresenter installation on another Mac, you will start by copying this entire media folder into the respective location on the new Mac so all paths will resolve properly.

Next, you need to move the existing ProPresenter database file (and thumbnails) to it's corresponding location on the new Mac. Another easy way to locate these files is to have ProPresenter show it to you. With ProPresenter running, click on the File menu, hold down the Option key, and choose the "Reveal Data in Finder" item. The database file will appear in a Finder window (ProPresenter.rvd) along with your Thumbnails folder. Go up one level to the folder containing these items and copy this whole folder. Place it in the same respective location on the new system (~ Your User Folder/Library/Application Support/Renewed Vision/ProPresenter).

Once both steps have been completed, you will have created an exact duplicate of your Master system on the new computer.

    55.
I can't add music videos purchased from iTunes

Protected videos from the iTunes store will NOT play in ProPresenter due to programming restrictions put in place by Apple. Until they change this policy and limitation, the videos can not be supported. However, protected music WILL play fine.

    56.
Can I run ProPresenter and ProVideoPlayer on the same machine at the same time?

Technically, yes, you can do this, but it is NOT possible to do this in the way that most people want to do it. You cannot overlay ProPresenter words over ProVideoPlayer's output within the machine, nor can you output ProVideoPlayer's output feed on a different output than ProPresenter's output. For all practical purposes, these should be used on two different machines.

    57.
I am trying to upgrade my ProPresenter and I am getting an "insufficient privilege" error message, how do I resolve this?

This is an odd error with Mac OS X privileges and the Applications folder. Try deleting the application that is in your Applications Folder before copying the new one over.

    58.
Why does my desired resolution not show up in my System Preferences when plugged into my switcher/scaler?

It's likely that your switcher is sending the wrong EDID back to your graphics card, which means your computer will only allow you to choose resolutions that are specified in that EDID. The easy way to confirm this is to connect your computer directly to your projector/display. This should allow you to choose from a wider range of resolutions.

There are several ways to correct this:
    • Find a setting on your switcher to make it send the correct EDID to your computer
    • Use a hardware device between the computer and the switcher that can fake the EDID such as the Gefen DVI Detective Plus
    • Use software that can force the computer to use any resolution, ignoring the EDID, such as SwitchResX

    59.
I am getting the error message: "A visual context could not be established. This is likely due to the presence of a non accelerated graphics card(i.e. AJA or Blackmagic) You may be able to disable the cards desktop display."

This error is generally caused by needing to update the display driver for the USB display adapter used for Stage Display. To update, go to DisplayLink.com and download the newest Mac driver. If you are using Mountain Lion, make sure you update the operating system before installing a newer driver.

    60.
Why am I having problems importing .wmv or other file types if I have Flip4Mac installed?

As of version 2.3.0.7, Flip4Mac changed the way it handles loading files. Because of this change, we are unable to create a thumbnail of the movie which can cause problems when trying to import a media file which uses Flip4Mac for decoding (such as a .wmv). The solution is to change a setting in Flip4Mac's preferences as described in Telestream's FAQ.

Here are the steps you would take for ProPresenter:
    • Go to System Preferences > Flip4Mac WMV > Player and click the Advanced button
    • Click the + button and add ProPresenter to the list
    • Relaunch ProPresenter for the changes to take effect

    61.
Problem launching ProPresenter when it gets to "Checking for DVD Media"

This is due to one of several DVD issues:
    • The DVD is in use by another application (Apple's DVD Player software)
      - SOLUTION: Quit both apps and restart ProPresenter.

    • The DVD database has been corrupted
      - SOLUTION: Go to: "/Library/Application Support/Renewed Vision/ProPresenter4" and delete the file named "DVDv2.rvd". Also delete "DVD.rvd" if that file exists in this folder.

    • The region code has not been set yet if it's a newer Mac
      - SOLUTION: Quit ProPresenter, insert a video DVD, and launch Apple's DVD player. It will detect the region code has not been set yet and will prompt you on how to set this.

If you don't need the DVD functionality, you can disable it altogether outside the program by executing the following command in the Mac OS X Terminal application (found in the Utilities Folder):
    • defaults write com.renewedvision.ProPresenter3 disableDVDFunctions -bool true

You can also do this in the application under the DVD panel in the ProPresenter Preferences section:

    62.
Why does my computer keep crashing after I install the BlackMagic DeckLink card?

This crash, known as a kernal panic, is a known issue with the most recent BlackMagic Design drivers for the DeckLink cards. You will need to download version 7.7.3 from the link below and install that driver to resolve the issue.

    Download BlackMagic driver

You can skip the registration process and just click on the Download Now button at the bottom of the form.

    63.
I purchased more Bible translations, but they are nowhere to be found. Where are they?

Instructions how to retrieve Bibles you've purchased are at the bottom of the confirmation page and confirmation email you received upon successfully purchasing a license.

To get a copyrighted Bible for ProPresenter, such as NIV, you must do two things. First purchase a license for the version desired and then return to download the data. Both are done from our Bibles page located here. Once you have purchased the license you will receive a confirmation containing the associated Bible Unlock Code(s). Return to this page and enter each code in the enable field and submit. The button next to the version you submitted will change from "Purchase" to "Download". After downloading, run the installer and then launch ProPresenter. Go to the Bibles section and select the installed version, which will now appear in the drop down list of Bibles loaded. ProPresenter will ask for the Unlock Code the first time and remember it from there on out.

    64.
Where is my User Library folder in Lion, Mountain Lion, and Mavericks?

If you're familiar with having to find your user data for one reason or another, you may have noticed that the folder seems to be missing in 10.7 or above. In 10.7, Apple chose to hide this folder.

There are a few ways to access this folder now.

Click on the Go menu in the Finder menu bar, press the Option key on your keyboard and select Library.

To navigate to this folder, open the Finder, press Command-Shift-G on your keyboard and enter: ~/Library and press Go.

To change this permanently, you need to use Terminal. (Be careful here because you can cause lots of problems if you do something wrong.) Open the Finder, go to Applications, Utilities, Terminal. Enter the following code exactly as you see it (copy/paste is best) and press Enter.

    chflags nohidden ~/Library/

One you have done this, enter the following to restart the Finder:

    killall Finder

For more about this, read this blog.

In Mavericks, there is now a Finder Preference setting to re-enable the Library folder.

    65.
What is this error message I get when importing playlist bundles?

It's possible that you may see this error message when you try to import a playlist bundle. You're seeing this because the permissions have changed on the folders that ProPresenter copies imported files to.

To fix this, open the Finder, go to MacintoshHD/Users/Shared and located the "RenewedVisionMedia" folder. Right-click on this folder and select Get Info. You can also single-click and press Command-I. Scroll to the bottom of the Get Info window, click on the lock icon in the lower right corner and enter your administrator password. Change the "Read Only" or "No Access" permissions to "Read & Write". Click on the actions menu (second icon in the lower left corner) and choose "Apply to Enclosed Items" and then click OK on the pop-up alert.

Once you have done this, restart ProPresenter and try to import the playlist bundle again. If you see other partial versions of the playlist in ProPresenter, delete those first.

    66.
ProPresenter won't open all the way.

This issue is most likely caused by a corrupted Video/Image Bin file. You will need to remove this file since there isn't a way to fix it. This will clear your entire Video/Image Bin, so you will need to re-import your media, but any media already linked to presentations won't be affected.
    1. Open a new Finder window.
    2. Press Command-Shift-G to open the Go menu.
    3. Copy/paste this, then press Go: ~/Library/Application Support/RenewedVision/ProPresenter4
    4. Locate the "media.pro4pl" file and drag that to your desktop.
    5. Launch ProPresenter.
If the program opens, you can delete the "media.pro4pl" file from your desktop since this the program opening confirms this was the corrupt file. You can then begin rebuilding your Video/Image Bin.

    67.
Having trouble with Pro3 and SongSelect

ProPresenter 3 no longer works with the new SongSelect website. You will have to log into SongSelect's website directly and download your songs as a text file to use in Pro3.

    68.
Why can't I install Bibles in Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion)?

The reason you cannot install your Bible(s) in Mountain Lion is due to Apple's new Gatekeeper feature. To bypass this issue:
    1. In Finder, Control-click or right click the icon of the app.
    2. Select Open from the top of contextual menu that appears.

You can read more about Gatekeeper on Apple's website, here.

    69.
I can't sync my ProPresenter 5 libraries with my Cloud account

If you are having trouble getting your libraries to sync documents with your ProCloud account, you may need to relink the library within ProPresenter. Ensure you have updated to the latest version of Pro5 first.
    1. Open Preferences and go to the Cloud Sync settings.
    2. Click on "Link Libraries".
    3. Change the Cloud Libraries selection to "None" for each library.
    4. Restart ProPresenter.
    5. Go back to "Link Libraries" and reselect the appropriate library. It may already have a library selected, but click on the name for the library you want linked to the local library again.

    70.
DVD ripping doesn't work in OS X Mountain Lion anymore.

This is due to a change in the third-party components used for ripping clips.

You will need to download libdvdcss.pkg from here.

Due to Mountain Lion's Gatekeeper utility, you may need to right-click on the file and select 'Open' after downloading it. Since this is a Package file, it will run the standard OS X installer. You may need an Administrator password to complete the installation.

    71.
Transitions on my MacBook Pro are not smooth.

If you have a MacBook Pro then you will need to change a setting related to your graphic card to improve the transitions between slides or media files.

Open System Preferences and access "Energy Saver".

MacBook Pro (Mid 2010 or newer)
You will have a check box to enable "Automatic graphic switching". Uncheck this box. Apple Support Article.

MacBook Pro (Late 2008 to Mid 2010)
You will have two options that you can select from: "Better battery life" and "Higher performance". You will want to check the option for "Higher performance". Apple Support Article.

If you are going to be using your MBP for an extended time on battery and not using ProPresenter, then you can enable the power saving option to allow your Mac to use the lower-powered video card to save your battery, but remember to set it back when using ProPresenter.

    72.
What does "Could not OPEN a Video Out Component" mean?

If you see this message, you have "Enable Output Device" checked on the Advanced Preference tab in ProPresenter without having a Blackmagic device available. Uncheck this option in Preferences to remove this alert.

    73.
Can I assign Edge Blending to two outputs of a TH2G and use the third output for something else?

No. The Edge Blending module does not allow you to specify which outputs of the TripleHead2Go are used for the blend.

You can use just two outputs of the TH2G (left and right), but the center output would be unused. You would be configuring the TH2G as a DualHead2Go.

The module works as a 2x1 or 3x1, but it does not work as 2x1 + 1. In order to use Edge Blending plus additional screens, you would need to invest in a Site License and the Master Control Module.

    74.
Which BlackMagic devices do you support?

The following BlackMagic devices have been tested and work with ProPresenter and the specified module. This list only includes devices currently available for sale and does not include legacy devices that may still be supported. Most devices will work with the next feature down in the list. This list only applies to Macs. We do not currently support any of these devices in the Windows version of ProPresenter.

    Alpha Keyer Module

    Windows system requirements?

System requirement are available on the right side of our Support Page.

    78.
    What video formats are supported?

ProPresenter for Windows supports QuickTime MOV (H.264 is the preferred codec) and MP4, as well as MPEG-1, and WMV. While other formats may play, those are the only tested formats.

If you have any issues with videos playing, we recommend re-encoding the videos using these instructions.

My DVD has video but no audio, how do I fix it?

If you have video and no audio you need to install a free codec called DScaler. This fixes an issue with Windows that prevents the audio from working with DVDs properly. Click here to download DScaler. Download using the first link on the page, as shown in the screenshot below.

    What is DirectX Diagnostics (dxdiag)?

DirectX Diagnostics is a small application built into Windows that provides a comprehensive overview of your computer specs. The primary use of DXDiag is to gather information about your video card, the amount of RAM available for the card and when the driver (software) was last updated that runs the video card.

    Accessing DirectX Diagnostic Tool:
    1. Click on Start (XP users: Click on Start, then on Run)
    2. Type dxdiag into the Search field and press Enter on your keyboard.
    3. If this is the first time you've used DXDiag, you will be shown a prompt asking for your permission to "allow DirectX Diagnostics to check if your drivers are digitally signed...". Click Yes.
    4. DirectX Diagnostic Tool will now open. Wait for the green progress bar in the lower left corner to complete. This should only take a few seconds.
    5. Now, click on tab at the top that says Display (if you only have one monitor connected) or Display 1 if you have multiple monitors connected.

Using the screen shot below, gather the information about your video card. The only information you need from this screen is the name of the card, the amount of RAM and the driver date.

If the driver date is more than three months old, it's recommended that you download and install the most recent driver available. The links to the major video card manufactures are listed below. If you can't find a newer driver (or your card isn't listed) and you are using a laptop, you may need to get an update directly from your laptop manufacturer's website. On all of these sites you will need to know what version of Windows you are running (this can be found on the System tab of DXDiag on the third line under System Information) and the name of your video card.

    ATI (AMD)

I keep getting a message saying PowerPoint isn't installed, but it is. What do I do?

If you have PowerPoint 2007 or 2010 installed, but ProPresenter keeps giving you an error message saying that it isn't installed, then you need to manually enabled the "Visual Basic for Applications" setting. Before you make these changes, close any Microsoft Office programs you have open as well as ProPresenter.

    Step 1: Open Add/Remove Programs

Step 2: Select Microsoft Office and then click on the "Change" button. (XP users, this is to the right of the program name. Vista/Win7 users, this is at the top of the window).

Step 3:Select "Add or Remove Features" from the list of options, then click Continue.

Step 4:Select "Office Shared Features" and click on the plus mark to the left to show the options.

Step 5: Select "Visual Basic for Applications and click on the disk icon. Select "Run from my computer". Click Continue to complete this setup.

    Windows 8 and ProPresenter.

    ProPresenter 5 supports Windows 8.

If you have a Matrox DualHead2Go or TripleHead2Go, you will need to update to the latest driver for Windows 8.

If you have a USB display adapter for Stage Display (purchased from Renewed Vision) you will need to update to the latest driver for Windows 8.

Windows 8 does not include DVD support out-of-the-box. You will need WIndows 8 Pro with Windows Media Center to use DVDs in ProPresenter. We officially made this system requirement change on June 26, 2013. If you have Windows 8 then you can upgrade to the required version of Windows for $99. If you have Windows 8 Pro, then you can add Windows Media Center for $9.99. You can find more information about either upgrade directly from Microsoft's website.

ProPresenter 4 will not be updated to support Windows 8.

Only full desktop versions of Windows 8 are supported. ProPresenter 5 does not support Windows 8 RT.

    84.
What video capture devices are supported?

The only video capture device that we have tested with the Windows version of ProPresenter is the XLR8 ProView USB Video Adapter. We do not support BlackMagic or other capture devices with the Windows version at this time.

    85.

Why can't I connect to SongSelect in ProPresenter 5?

If SongSelect says that it fails to connect when you try to log in, make sure that the system clock on your computer is correct. If it is off by just one minute it will fail to pass SongSelect's security system.

    1. Click on the Clock in the task bar
    2. Click on Change date and time settings...
    3. Click on the Internet Time tab
    4. Click on the Change settings... button
    5. Make sure the box is changed and then click on the Update now button

    87.
    Is Office 2013 supported?

HP computers with dual video cards

If you have an HP computer that has dual video cards, ProPresenter may not be able to detect the second video card. Please follow these instructions from HP to fix this issue.

    89.
Why is my ProPresenter screen mostly black after the latest update?

This is a known issues. Due to an issue with the third-party component we used to improve the Video/Image Bin performance, some users may experience a known issue after disconnecting an external display. If you disconnect the secondary display(s) from your computer, ProPresenter's interface may not load properly. You should be able to resolve this by restarting your computer or by reconnecting an external display. You may also be able to resize the application window manually rather than using the Maximize Window button. This issue occurs on less than half of our PCs and the third-party vendor has not been able to reproduce this issue either. We are continuing to work with them to duplicate this issue and get it resolved.

    90.
Why is my Stage Display screen showing up on just part of the display?

If you are having issues with the Stage Display not fitting properly on the screen, you may need to change a system display setting that handles the zooming of objects on screen.

ProPresenter needs to be run at 100% magnification. Some computers come with this setting defaulted to 125%. Follow these instructions for Windows 7 and these instructions for Windows 8 to change this setting.

    91.
Why is the loading screen still showing after ProPresenter opens?

If you see the ProPresenter loading screen several minutes after you launched the program, it likely means something hasn't completely finished loading. Most often this is the Playlist data under the Library.

To fix this issue, you will be deleting the Playlist data fie, which means you'll have to create new playlists. You can confirm if this is the problem, first, by checking to see if your Playlists has loaded yet or not. If they haven't loaded and you still have the loading screen, this is most likely the problem.

Follow these steps to remove the Playlist data file:
    1. While ProPresenter is open, click on the ProPresenter 5 menu and select Preferences.
    2. Click on the "General" tab in Preferences.
    3. When Windows Explorer opens, quit ProPresenter.
    4. Open the ProPresenter 5 folder in Windows Explorer.
    5. Open the "PlaylistData" folder.
    6. If you only have one Library in ProPresenter, the file will be called "Default" or "Default.pro5pl" depending on your file extension settings. If you have more than one Library, you'll see additional files for each Library. Drag the file for your current Library to the Desktop.
    7. Launch ProPresenter and see if it loads all the way without the logo screen staying visible.
If this has worked, the loading screen will go away after a few seconds. Your Playlist section will be empty and you will need to start new Playlists. If you have exported any previous playlists that you want to import, you can do so now. You can also delete the file that you moved to your playlist in step 6 above.

    92.
Why does my mouse disappear when I open ProPresenter?

If you open ProPresenter and your mouse disappears, this is generally because you Output screen has been reassigned to your computer screen. You will need to correct the assignment to get your mouse cursor back.

    1. Press Control-1 to turn off the main output so that you cna use your mouse cursor again.
    2. Open ProPresenter Preferences and go to the Display tab.
    3. Drag the word "Out" back onto the correct screen, usually #2.
    4. Press Control-1 to turn your Output back on.
You should still be able to use your mouse cursor and see the Output on the appropriate screen. The screen can switch to your computer display if you disconnect your external display while ProPresenter is still open. The program is not designed to move the screen back when a second display is reconnected, so you have to manually change this. To avoid this, close ProPresenter before you disconnect any external displays.
